In such cases, the only solution is to completely remove and re-install Chrome from scratch. This tutorial will show you how to remove Google Chrome completely from your computer and to re-install your favorite browser again.
This tutorial can fix many Chrome problems and issues, like:
- Google Chrome doesn't open at all.
- Google Chrome runs into crashes or slow performance.
- Google Chrome displays a 'Your preferences could not be read' error message at startup.
- Ads constantly appearing on Google Chrome after adware infection.
How to completely remove Google Chrome in Windows. (All Versions)
Important: Keep in mind that if you follow this procedure, then you lose all your personal profile information stored on Google Chrome, including Bookmarks, Passwords, Settings, etc. Follow this procedure at your own responsibility if any of the other solutions didn’t have any effect.
Suggestions before you continue to remove Chrome from your computer:

Step 1: Uninstall Google Chrome from your computer.
1. Navigate toWindows Control Panel & open Programs & Features (Add/Remove Programs if you have Windows XP). In case you don't know how to do that, here is what you have to do:
- Press “Windows” + “R” keys to load the Run dialog box.
- Type “appwiz.cpl” and press Enter.
2. In the program list, select the Google Chrome and click Uninstall.
Step 2: Enable the Hidden Files View.
You must enable the hidden files view before performing the next step. To do that go to:
- Start > Control Panel > Folder Options. (In Windows 10 look for 'File Explorer Options')
- Click the View tab.
- Click (check) the Show hidden files, folders, and drives option &
- Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.
- Press OK.
Step 3: Delete “Chrome” folders from your computer.
Navigate to the following locations and delete (or rename) the “Chrome” folder(s) that exist there.
Windows 8,7, Vista:
- C:Users<YourUserName>AppDataLocalGoogleChrome
- C:Program FilesGoogleChrome
Windows XP:
- C:Documents and Settings<YourUserName>Local SettingsApplication DataGoogleChrome

How to re-install Google Chrome.
Method 1. Using Chrome Download Center.
1. From any other browser that works (e.g. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.) navigate tohttps://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/desktop/
2. Click Download Chrome and then follow the on screen instructions to finish the installation.
Method 2. Install a fresh copy of Google Chrome for all user accounts on your computer.
1. From any other browser that works (e.g. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.) , download and run the Alternate (offline) Google Chrome installer for all user accounts.
2. When the installation is completed, run Google Chrome.

Microsoft Edge
The Microsoft Edge browser is tied to Windows 10 and consequently, so are its updates. To update the Edge browser, you need to update Windows with the steps below.

Internet Explorer
Microsoft updates Internet Explorer using its Windows update feature. As long as you are regularly installing the latest Windows updates from Microsoft, you should have the latest version of Internet Explorer.

If you do not have Windows automatic updates enabled in Windows 8 and earlier versions, you need to update Internet Explorer on your computer manually by following these steps:
- Open the Control Panel.
- Click on and open the Windows Update utility.
- In the left navigation pane, click the Check for updates link.
- You can choose to install all available updates or select the updates you want to install.
Chrome
Google Chrome will update automatically as new iterations are released to the public. To verify that your version of Chrome is the latest or update it manually, follow these steps:
- Open the Google Chrome browser.
- Click the Customize and control Google Chrome button in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- From the drop-down menu that appears, select Help, then select About Google Chrome.
- The window that appears will automatically check for updates and show you the current version of Chrome. If an update is available, Chrome will be updated automatically. After Chrome is updated, click the RELAUNCH option to restart Chrome and complete the update.
Users may enter the chrome://chrome/ into the omnibox (Chrome address bar) to achieve the same result.

Chrome on Android tablet or phone
On an Android tablet or phone, the Chrome browser should automatically get updated. The Android operating system will keep standard apps, like the Chrome browser, automatically updated to the latest version. However, if automatic updates are not working, you can access the Google Play app on your Android device to check for an updated version of the Chrome browser.
Firefox
Mozilla Firefox should automatically download updates and prompt you when they are available to install. To verify that your version of Firefox is the latest or update it manually, follow these steps:
- Open the Mozilla Firefox browser.
- Click the Open menu button in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- In the menu that appears, click the Help option at the bottom.
- Select About Firefox.
- The window that appears will automatically check for updates and show you the current version of Firefox. If an update is available, you can click the Restart to update Firefox button to install the update.

Safari
If you have Apple updates turned on, Safari should stay up-to-date automatically. To verify that your version of Safari is the latest or update manually, follow these steps:

Safari on iPad or iPhone

Opera
Opera should update itself automatically. However, if you would like to check the version or update manually, follow these steps:
- Open Opera web browser.
- Click the Opera icon in the top-left corner of the window.
- Select About Opera from the drop-down menu that appears.
- If updates are available, they will be installed automatically.

- If no Help section is found, check the browser's main menu for a section labeled Update or Upgrade.
- If you cannot find a Help, Update, or Upgrade section in your browser, visit the website for the developer of the browser. The developer's website often have a browser update option on their website.
